The Midwit

The topic of today's unhinged rant is the average American Midwit - the scourge of my sanity, patience and even their own survival.

A dumb man may, through idiocy and incompetence, kill themselves. But they can't be talked into doing obviously suicidal things - unlike the typical midwit, who can be convinced of ridiculous notions that a Grug-brained caveman would ridicule.

Grug knows man... Grug knows.

But why? How can, (what appears to be), a reasonably intelligent person find themselves subscribed to barking-mad lunacy? Answering this requires a deep dive into the brain of your average 95 IQ normie.

Midwits continually seek to discern the dominant views of their civilization, (even if said beliefs are patently suicidal or obnoxiously stupid), and then conform to them.

This is done for several reasons:
1: To advance their personal interests.
2: To protect their Ego.
3: Intellectual laziness.
4: Fear of reprisals.
5: They lack the intelligence to comprehend the gears behind the machine.

(See Also: The Fagcine is a perfect example of midwit herd behavior).

Midwits rarely "make" things or labor manually. Therefore, they must conform to the socially dominant trends to be allowed to earn a living within the bugman system. Refusing to accept the trendy, "expert approved," theology-of-the-minute risks alienation from their fellow hivemates... and thusly, their very means of survival.

Note that the midwit doesn't particularly care if what they "believe" is factually correct. (They are, after all midwits - they're too intellectually lazy to check for themselves, and lack the Mentat's ability to model extremely complex systems). Thus, the midwit's only concern is maintenance of the current system-approved dogma. Anyone pointing out contrary views is ignored... or attacked. The midwit dares not upset his fellow insects or the harmony of his termite colony - to do so risks their comfort and livelihood.

Beyond simple self-interest, the midwit must accept the most trendy philosophy - or risk admitting he was made an absolute fool of. They are not self-assured enough to admit they were made to believe and repeat obnoxious things. Ego is at play, and rather than concede being lead astray, the midwit will ride their fallacious - but peer-reviewed - foolishness to ridiculous extremes - and even their graves.

As Ol'Remus pointed out (before his untimely demise): "Avoid crowds." The middle of the Bell Curve strivers are definitionally "a crowd..."

...of lemmings.

And they'll drag you into a ravine right alongside them.

It's All So Tiresome.

We're reaching fractal levels of "It's All So Tiresome" that should not be possible.
